What if you had the chance to save a life, but didn’t know what to do when the time came? CPR training in Los Angeles arms one with the knowledge and skills they need to act and help save a life when needed whether it be a loved one or a stranger.
Consider these facts about heart attacks:
- Annually, more than one million people have a heart attack in the United States, resulting in 500,000 deaths.
- Heart disease is the leading cause of death among both men and women.
- 50% of people die within one hour after suffering a heart attack outside of a hospital.
- Cardiovascular diseases claim more lives than all forms of cancer combined
- Women under age 50 are twice as more likely to die of a heart attack than men of the same age.
- More than 200,000 heart attacks happen to people who have already had at least one previous heart attack.
- High blood pressure, smoking and high cholesterol are the three biggest risk factors for heart disease. About one-half of all Americans have at least one of these three risk factors.
- According to the American Heart Association, only about 30 percent of Americans are trained in CPR.
While these facts are alarming, the life-saving benefits of CPR are gaining greater awareness. With a bill recently passed in law in California, beginning in 2018-19 school year, students will be required to learn CPR in the hopes they will one day be able to save a life. With the passage of this law, California is now the 35th state to require CPR education in schools.
That’s important news, but it still means that untold numbers of people can still do their part to ensure a more life-saving and enriched community by making it a priority to become CPR certified.
Heart attacks are a big health problem, and while they can’t always be prevented, with appropriate CPR training, one has the ability and skill set to save another.
